Cover of the Continental Math League Prep Guide — Grade 3

A Complete CML Study Plan for Third Grade.

A CML Grade 3 meet is 6 problems in 30 minutes, with no answer choices: your child writes each answer, with its unit, in the answer column. Some answers have two or three parts, and every part must be right.

The meets love puzzles children rarely see in school — made-up symbols with a rule, letters that stand for digits, roads on a map, best buys, remainders. This guide teaches one kind at a time, from a warm-up to problems as hard as the hardest Grade 4 and 5 ones.

Every answer has a picture, one line for your child, and a note for you with the most common wrong answer, so you can see exactly where the thinking went off track.

What's inside

Everything your child needs to prepare for CML Grade 3.

15 Focused Chapters

150 Practice Problems

Every Answer Explained

A picture, a line for your child, and a parent note naming the most common wrong answer.

Frequently asked questions

What grade is this guide for?

This edition is written specifically for third grade and the Grade 3 CML meet. Second graders have their own Grade 2 guide; guides for Grades 4–6 are on the way, and until then the Grades 2–6 guide covers them.

Is CML multiple choice?

No. CML papers have an answer column, and students write each answer in themselves, with its unit. The guide and its practice meets work the same way.

How many meets are there?

Grade 3 sits three meets a year at school, running January to March. The guide has six practice meets, so your child can practice before each one.

How should my child use the guide?

Two or three problems a day is plenty. Follow the four-week plan, taking a practice meet each week, and save Practice Meet 6 for a timed run a few days before the meet.

Are the problems original?

Yes — 100% original, in the style and difficulty of CML meets. We never copy actual contest problems.

How do I get the guide after buying?

You'll get an instant download page after checkout, plus an email with your download link.

Is there a refund policy?

We generally don't offer refunds, but if you're not satisfied, contact us and we'll do our best to make it right.
