A Complete CML Study Plan for Fifth Grade.
A CML Grade 5 meet is 6 problems in 30 minutes, five times a year at school. There are no answer choices: your child writes each answer, with its unit, in the answer column. Some answers have two parts, and both must be right.
Grade 5 has two papers, the Euclidean and the harder Pythagorean. This guide is pitched at the Pythagorean paper: in every chapter, problems 1–3 warm up at meet level, problems 4–8 match the hardest problems on a real Grade 5 paper, and the two starred Challenges are as hard as the hardest Grade 6 problems.
Every answer has a picture, a line with the steps, and a note with a check and the most common wrong answer, so you can see exactly where the thinking went off track.

Frequently asked questions
What grade is this guide for?
This edition is written specifically for fifth grade and the Grade 5 CML meet. Grades 2, 3, 4 and 6 have their own guides.
Euclidean or Pythagorean?
CML writes two Grade 5 papers and your school enters one. The guide is pitched at the harder Pythagorean paper. If your child sits the Euclidean, problems 1–3 of each chapter are already above that paper’s level, and the rest take them well beyond it.
Is CML multiple choice?
No. CML papers have an answer column, and students write each answer in themselves, with its unit. The guide and its practice meets work the same way.
How many meets are there?
Grade 5 sits five meets a year at school. The guide has six practice meets, so your child can practice before each one and keep one for meet week.
How should my child use the guide?
Three problems a day is plenty. Follow the four-week plan, taking the practice meets as it suggests, and save Practice Meet 6 for a timed run a few days before a meet.
Are the problems original?
Yes — 100% original, in the style and difficulty of CML meets. We never copy actual contest problems.
How do I get the guide after buying?
You'll get an instant download page after checkout, plus an email with your download link.
Is there a refund policy?
We generally don't offer refunds, but if you're not satisfied, contact us and we'll do our best to make it right.
