The Grades 5–6 Math Kangaroo paper is 30 questions in 75 minutes, in three blocks of ten worth 3, 4 and 5 points. Most questions are a picture and a few short lines: the data is in the drawing, and the thinking is the hard part.
This guide teaches one question type per chapter, from fractions, divisibility and speed to cube nets, folding and logic grids. Every problem shows its points like the real paper, and the papers have been getting harder, so the guide practices a little above past ones.

What grades is this guide for?
This edition is written for fifth and sixth graders, who sit the same Math Kangaroo paper: 30 questions in 75 minutes, three point blocks, five choices each.
Can my child use it on their own?
Yes. The guide speaks to the student throughout, and every answer shows the steps and why they work, so a fifth or sixth grader can study and check their own work.
Is it hard?
Yes, on purpose. The papers have been getting harder, so each chapter climbs from 3-point problems to the 5-point level, and the two starred Challenges go a step beyond. It is fine to leave them for a second day.
How should my child use the guide?
Two or three problems a day is plenty. Work through the 12 chapters in four weeks, then take Practice Test A; save the timed Practice Test B (75 minutes) for a few days before the contest.
